Karren Baker

 Karren Baker practiced law for 25 years before starting Baker Mediations, LLC in 2015.  Licensed in California and Tennessee, Karren litigated business disputes in both federal and state courts, across numerous states, including insurance matters, subrogation, banking matters, breach of contracts, workplace harassment, non-compete agreements, securities violations and discrimination. 

For much of her litigation career, she dealt with insurance coverage disputes, usually representing large, international insurers.  That experience makes her particularly well-suited to handle cases where an insurance company is either a party or insures one or more of the parties to a dispute.  She is knowledgeable about all types of insurance policies, including commercial general liability, professional liability, directors and officers, environmental impairment liability and errors and omissions.  She is also well acquainted with issues concerning captive insurance companies.  

Karren is a Rule 31 Listed Mediator (Civil) with the Tennessee Supreme Court.

Karren believes in extensive pre-mediation communication with all of the parties.  Using pre-mediation calls and email exchanges, Karren learns as much about the facts and law surrounding the dispute, the personalities of the parties and counsel, and other concerns that may affect the settlement process.  Whether the mediation is between two parties or ten, Karren listens to all the parties to learn their positions and helps the parties reach their best possible resolution. 

 Karren is known for her candid conversations with the parties and her ability to de-escalate tense situations. If the case fails to settle on mediation day, she continues to try and facilitate settlement afterwards.  With calls, emails and offers of assistance, Karren routinely settles matters after the mediation, even when the parties say settlement is impossible.
